Life with babe(s)... How's it going, Mamas?? - Page 2

Louis is five whole days old today. He is a dream. He obviously does not take after dh - can you tell I'm a little annoying with dh? Oh well. I won't go there right now. I think he's umbilical stump may fall off today. He is a very peaceful baby. I had a bit of a scare on Monday. I felt great when the midwife came by in the morning, but by the evening I was running over 100 fever and feeling like total crap. I guess I was dehydrated. I was drinking and peeing tons, but apparently it was just going right through me. I drank a whole bottle of Recharge and my fever finally broke at 5am. I was really ticked, too - I have really been taking care of myself and then this happens. I started getting a fever yesterday and had to drink more Recharge. I guess I just have to be careful. I feel pretty good, but my insides are still very sore. I'm more sore this time - I think it is because he came out sunny side up. That was really, really painful. Wow. I'm taking it easy. I may actually get dressed today! Dh has to work on Friday. That's going to be a pretty busy day, so I am trying to rest all I can before then. Luckily, he only works one day and then has a three day weekend. This little dude's timing was so perfect. He was born on the day the weather broke, the day my friend had off work so she could help, AND right before the holiday. What a considerate little guy! LOL.

Vivian saw her doctor yesterday, at eight days old. She has flown past her birthweight of 8lbs 15oz, up to 9lbs 8oz! We couldn't believe it. She also seems to have grown an inch and a half. Yay breastmilk! She was pronounced healthy, strong and beautiful, none of which was news to us.

I thought the exact same thing when I only had one! We are doing it the same way you are-- one day at a time!

Oh don't worry, that's normal. All my babies did that, regardless of whether I did anything or not or if it was summer, fall, or winter. They always seem to lose that outside layer of skin when adapting to life on the outside.

Spencer is now 2 weeks and 5 days old. He's doing terrific. He bfeeds like a champ, and my nipples are finally starting to heal after a trip to the LC. We saw the pediatrician on Monday, and he is up to 9lb 6oz from 8lb 5oz at birth, and has grown 2 inches as well! He usually wakes up 2-3 times a night to eat, and I'm doing okay with the interupted sleep patterns so far. DH is EXTREMELY crabby if I try to wake him to help with a diaper changer or anything else, so I'm pretty much doing it on my own at night.

DS1 is doing well too. After a very rough first 3 or 4 days, he has calmed down considerably and not being nearly as aggressive with DH or myself. I just try to give him a little extra TLC as often as I can to make him know he's loved so much... He's enjoying having me home from work, but is sick of me by the end of the day and ready for DH to come home.

We took our second walk to the farmer's market today-just to get out and get some of the last summer produce before the fall things start to come in (I cannot get enough sweet corn-period). Things are going well... definitely easier the second time around.

Let's hear it for one handed typing! We are 3 1/2 weeks into little Stella's life, and I think things are going pretty well! She has now exceeded her birth weight by a few ounces, and DH and I noticed she has outgrown her smallest outfit, in length, not girth. Looks like she'll be a long skinny girl. She is opening her blue eyes more, but mostly in dark rooms. Dh and I call her "the bat" ( which goes well with the Stellaluna book...). She has popped out with baby acne on her face, poor thing, but no diaper rash yet, and her skin sloughing is all done.
Dh and I feel a little stir crazy around the house all day, so we have had several excursions to the park, walks, a local concert, public meetings, etc. I'm getting the hang of NIP, thank goodness for my sling! But I'm annoyed with my complete lack of wardrobe. None of my pre-pg clothes fit yet, and my maternity clothes just make me look bigger and aren't nursing friendly, so I wear about the same 3 things over and over.Fortunately, we're doing enough laundry that they're always clean!
I'm loving my cloth dipes, and am super impressed with DH who has been chief dipe-changer.
Sleep? She's getting better, and so am I. I think we're up to 6-8 hours a night, spread out over 10 hours or so.
No signs of ppd, which I was really worried about. But still hormonal and emotional. I cry when she cries...sometimes I laugh hysterically at nothing in particular.
So happy to be done with pg and I love being a mom!

So sad, half our dinner just got upended on the porch. A friend came by with pasta salad and brownies, and she set them down on the top porch step. Then she said, "I should move the food, that's not too safe", and as she finishes saying that her 2 year old steps on the edge of the bowl and half of the contents fly all over the porch. She felt soo bad, but there was still enough left for one meal.
However, the huge pan of vegan brownies she also brought was perfectly safe . Guess what I'm having double or triple helpings of this evening?!!!
