It took nine months for me to get pregnant after getting off the pill, but we were not trying to get pregnant. We just stopped the pill and let nature take its course!
I would say to err on the side of caution in terms of the timing because you definitely don't want to get in a situation where you feel rushed to go back to work because you have no benefits.
I gained 49 lbs (!) during my pregnancy and ate healthily. I was the skinniest I'd been in a long time (thanks to Bikrams yoga) when I got pregnant and unfortunately that body size has been my goal to get back to which I don't think is realistic considering DS is only 10 months old. The bottom line is to respect your goddess, life-giving body and try not to get too attached to the guidelines you hear. Easier said than done!
Good luck!
