Well, my own car seat dilemma got solved today. My best friend and I were talking on the phone about car seats, and she said "Oh, you can use ours!" It's less than a year old, I know BOTH people who have used it, and it definitely hasn't been in an accident.
The first person was in an accident and got her infant seat replaced with the same model, but didn't need to use it much longer after that. This seat is the replacement seat (no accidents). She gave it to my friend when she moved her daughter (now 14 months) to a convertible. My friend had her baby in May and is going to be ready to move her daughter to a convertible soon. She doesn't even pull the infant seat out of the base except when shopping, and as soon as her daughter can sit up (should be before my baby comes), she'll have no use for the infant seat really. So she's giving it to me. And neither of the previous owners are planning on having another baby before the expiry of the seat, which is why both have been happy to give it away to someone who needs it.
Yipee! This one might even last through baby #3 (preg with #2 now), depending on the date on the seat. I'll look at it when I get it. But hey, you can't beat free, especially when you know the history of the seat.
It's a Graco Snugride or Snugride 2 - not sure which. And it's front adjusting. If she doesn't have an extra base, I have a Snugride 2 base at my mom's house (works with Snugride and Snugride 2), so should be covered there. Woohoo!
Now let's see how long it takes my 30lb/36" 2 year old to outgrow the Evenflo Triumph and Britax Rounadabout... I'm looking at getting him the Safety 1st Apex (fits up to 100 lbs/57") when it comes time to move baby to a convertible, and then baby can use the Triumph and Roundabout until he gets too tall.
Then I just reevaluate my carseat needs yet again. Man, this stuff is complicated!!!
