Help Please! Fabric dyes/paints ? for son's Halloween costume

I may be a little too ambitious in this project, and could certainly use some guidance if anyone would be willing to lend it. My toddler is going to be a dog for Halloween this year, but not any old dog costume will do. We're in Florida and need a lightweight outfit, plus, we'd like for him to look like one of our dogs. Here is the pup's picture.

So, I was thinking I could buy white clothing blanks from DharmaTrading and after sewing ears on, I could paint the appropriate markings on, but I'm not sure which paint would be best for my project. I need something easy to use and that would give me the right color orange-brown. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!

fabric paint or fabric markers would work. if you want something *easy* i would buy remnants of fabric in the color of the spots, cut them out and glue (fabric or craft glue) or sew them on. There are those "bingo dot" paints, they are easy to use and would be quick, not sure about a wide color section with those though. You could also tie off the spot areas with a rubber band and dip those sections in a liquid dye bath. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I think I may take your suggestion and glue on the large markings and then use a fabric marker for his freckles. Wish me luck! I'm not Martha Stewart!
