We have been doing some repainting and I found one of those kits that will test to see if there is lead in your house. We have some cracking paint at points all over the house. I tested one spot that is really cracking and it tested positive. What can we do? I would really like to move to get away from it but that isnt an option. what else can we do?

Are you in the USA? The EPA has lots of information and also ways to contact people to help with abatement, if you need it.

If you cannot afford abatement, you can also paint over the areas. Sealing lead in will keep you safe from it. At least that is what my environmental scientist hubby tells me. We just moved out of a home with possible lead paint. When dd was born, we painted over any cracked areas any time they started to show. When the house sold, the buyer's inspector told them the same thing. Seal it in or do abatement to get it out.

Call your county health department. Around here, they will come and do abatement at no cost for certain income groups.
