Organic couches are expensive!! Alternatives?

I really wanted to slowly fill my new home with some organic furniture. Especially the couches and cushy chairs. However, this process would take me a lifetime to buy ONE couch! Seriously....$3,000-5,000!!!! Ummm...no.
I was thinking organic futon mattresses and frames instead, but I'm worried about them always slipping down on the frame. Our futon from Walmart did that before and I hated it. Always looked like crud.

So...any ideas on alternatives that won't break the bank? Thanks!

It will cost you more but a nice inerspring futon matress makes all the difference on a futon. we bought two at the same time, one with springs and one with out (it was $20 difference. what was wrnong with me) and the difference is amazing. So long as you get a nice thick matress with springs it will feel better and keep its shape and hold its weight better. the ones from walmart are about as flimsy and cheap as you can buy. you can't really judge a futpn by those. I think we had something like 6 or 7 levels of quality and thickness to choose rfom rranging from $80-$300. (not organic but just to give you an idea of the different levels of quality) So shop around for a good organic futon. don't let one cheap one talk you out of it.

It's a compromise, but check out IKEA if there is one in your vicinity. Their couches are made without PBDEs, and I know IKEA tries to use renewable sources as much as possible. Their prices for couches range from $200 to over a thousand, depending on what you are looking for. Lots of options.
