Ds knocked his tooth out...

I had a volunteer meeting tonight... I got back and DH had a worried look on his face and said in a weird voice that something happened... both kids were running around when I walked in so I didn't know at all what to expect and DH just said that I had to go see something....

I walked into the bathroom where he was and he put DS#1 on the counter... Xavier smiled showing a big gap... Just after I had left he was playing and fell and had knocked his tooth out... (he just turned 4)...
Dh called the CLSC (nurses line) and we have to make an appt at the Dentist tommorow..
DH said that he didn't bleed much and DH did a great job at making him feel OK about the loss... (really proud of the way that DH handled things)
I am wondering a bit what to expect...
His gum is pretty knocked up and bruised and the space was already pretty small and his other tooth is a bit wobboly (both front teeth have been wobboly for a while)
I know that thus is a bit petty... but I am really mourning his smile ...

awww... that is an awful way to lose a tooth.

Since his tooth was already wobbly, the dentist probably won't try to put it back in. If you think this is a possibility, though, I think you are supposed to wrap a tooth in gauze which was soaked in milk. Breastmilk would be ideal, I assume.

I would ice his mouth as much as he will tolerate and give him arnica often.

hugs to you guys.

Aw, poor kiddo. I think the tooth will probably stay out since he's already four. I know I'm getting this a little too late, but if it happens again I would take the child to the emergency room instead of calling the health line. Well, at four maybe not but for the younger one, yes.

DH doesn't drive and had both kids... and the waiting time is about 8 hours... I called a bit later on to ask if we should go and the nurse said that at the hospital they would suggest going to a dentist the day after anyways since they can't do anything...

Well I went to the Dentist with ds today and he did it really well...

The tooth was a very clean knock so there is nothing left in the gum which is a good thing... An X-ray showed that nothing else is broken either (also showed that he will be needing braces like his mama because his teeth are already overlapped)

His other front tooth is loose and it might fall out soon... we are just going to do a softer diet for at least 2 weeks so that it still has a chance to tighten again...

It is so weird seeing him smile but I am getting used to it already...
