Hem my own pants, myself? HELP!

I have a pair of pants that I will be wearing for a total of six days. That's it.
I am going to a training seminar where a uniform is required and the pants I had to buy for it came in different sizes, but all LONG, so they could be hemmed to fit each person. Since I hate these pants, and will not be wearing them after this, is it possible to just go ahead and hem them myself? I'm having an awful time finding someone to do it for me. I have basic sewing skills. I can't do anything fancy, but can do a straight line-well, usually. I also have my MIL's bernina that she doesn't use, so it's a good machine.

Do I attempt it myself, or keep looking for someone? They're an army green that i'm wearing with hiking boots. I don't think anyone would notice if they're not straight. Too short maybe, but not crooked.

can you get a friend to at least pin the hem for you?

Get another pair of your pants that fit nicely in the length and lay your new pants on top of them, matching the crotch seams. Then you can find the length and pin it yourself.

Just make sure that you allow for turning up the hem when you cut off the excess fabric - that is, if the pants you are using as your length guide are a 30 inch inseam, you'll want to allow an inch or so extra to press up and tuck the edge in (press 1/2 inch up, then press that raw edge inside another 1/2 inch up or etc.), before you hem them. Otherwise, you'll end up with "high water waders" as we used to call them growing up.

If you don't want to sew them, I'm sure you find something at a sewing store, like an iron-on tape or something similar, that will allow you to hem them without wasting a stitch on them. Good luck!

It sounds like she's doing something outdoorsy though, I don't know that I would trust iron on tape to stay put for 6 days. If you can sew a relativley straight stitch, I would get someone to pin the bottoms for you. If you're by yourself I'd second one of the pp's suggestion about lining it up with another pair of pants. Then fold over and sew a straight stitch.

Yes, it is outdoors, it's a leadership skills course, and very intense. I'm excited.

Thank you for all the replies, dh found someone local to do it for under $15. I'm spending the money.
