Hair coloring and no-poo question...

I know it's not ideal for me to color my hair using chemicals, but I'm going to anyway (: ). I'm coloring my hair red and want to know if my no-poo routine will affect (effect?) the color. I use baking soda/water mixed with some conditioner to wash (and some brown sugar once a week) and apple cider vinager/water to condition. Do you think the ACV will cause the red to come out faster or to discolor?

Thanks,
Shannon

I use henna. It's red and it's not toxic at all. I use Neutrogena Clean conditioner daily to wash, shampoo once every week or two, and ACV sometimes. I've not had a problem. Henna will bleed for a while in warm water and that's it. Maybe try henna?

As long as the ACV is dilute enough, it shouldn't matter. Perhaps 1-2 Tbl to a quart of water or so. That might not be enough conditioning after a chemical color, tho, even with the conditioner wash.

I second the henna. I recently switched from chemical color to henna (I like red, too) and am very pleased with the color and the gray coverage. My hair feels a ton better, too.

Hey Shannon,

It's the baking soda and not the ACV that will strip your hair color. I was thinking of a way to still no-poo and use baking soda. You can probably combine your BS and ACV to make a buffer solution (after it stops fizzing, you get a buffer solution) and see if that cleans your hair (it will lessen the effect of the baking soda of stripping the color).

I second the henna, it's great stuff.
