DD fell and hurt her teeth - help!

dd (3) was running on the gravel driveway and fell down. She must have hit her top front teeth, because there were bleeding. She says they hurt really bad, and they might be a little loose, but it is hard to tell. Most of the bleeding has stopped, but a little is still seeping out between the two teeth and from the back of them.

Do you think I need to take her to the dentist? We live over an hour drive from town and the dentists office closes in 15 minutes. Is there anyhting they could do?

I gave her some arnica and tylenol, and she is cuddled up in my lap. She says hit hurts to bad to suck her nuk (pacifier), so she is just holding it in her mouth

Please help!

Hmmm maybe you could take her to the ER and they can get a hold of the dentist if she needs to see on.

Call your dentist's office. Even if they close in 15 minutes, they will be able to tell you what to do better than non-dentist mothers on a message board can.

And if they feel they need to see her right away, perhaps they will be willing to stay open and see her as soon as you can get there.

Ds just knocked out his front tooth last night and the one next to it is very losse and might fall out soon...

I did a lot of research last night and this morning and read that when they come loose they will usually come tighten up again within a few days... just avoid eating hard foods for as long as possible (even up to two weeks)... which is what our plan is... and if he looses it then he looses it...

If they are VERY loose or pushed out of position then you should get an appt at the dentist soon...

My dd did the same thing a few months back ... there is nothing they can do for her. Are they loose? thats all they will check for. Do watch out for discoloration. My dd "killed" her tooth and now it is a greyish color and it really bugs me .... I know it is her baby tooth but poor baby with a big ole grey tooth ... we are taking her next month to get a procedure done to try to lighten it so it looks more like her normal teeth. They will go in from behind drill a hole scrape out the dryed up blood (what causes the discoloration) and put a filling over the hole ...

Thanks, I did call the dentist office, as soon as I posted. They said as long as they are not knocked out and stop bleeding, there is nothing they can do . She is asleep right now.

1 of the teeth was already dead (from hitting in on a counter top last summer).

Thank you all, and I hope all the rest of you with babes with hurt teeth heal well too.

I'm bumping this thread because my ds (4) has a dead front tooth from a bad fall he took a couple months ago. Today the dentist said we should x-ray it to make sure there will be no issues when the permanent tooth comes in.

Well, we took the x-ray and ds' tooth is hanging by a few threads, literally. It will fall out any day, but there is still part of the baby tooth up in the gum. The dentist said we need to remove that to prevent any abcess or infection forming.

But... it seems from some posts here and on google searches that I am doing tonight : that most dentists just leave the teeth alone unless its causing pain.

I don't want to prematurely pull out ds' tooth, but I"m also worried about what would be left behind (in his gums) and don't want to affect his future adult teeth.

Arg. Just really looking for more people who have been thru this and what they decided to do.
