First lets backtrack abit, Kindergarden orientation was in June, the kids spent an hour in the classroom with the teacher and the parents spent an hour in the library with the principal. He had said kindergarden starts 1 week after the rest of school, so this morning I phoned to double check, kindergarden starts on Sept 12th. It was the principal I talked to, I did have somemore quetions for him about Kindergarden, but before I could ask them he told me that Mrs. X will be phoning each parent starting next week because she wants to have a meeting with each parent/parents one on one to get to know them better and talk about our kids, like I guess if we had any worries or concerns about them. I personally think this is awsome, and to me this shows she really does care for her students. I wonder if many teacher are like that?

that sounds great! I have found that it varies from year to year, completely dependent on the personality of the teacher. I hope this continues at your school!

Kindergarten started on Monday for my dd. In August her teacher called all the parents
and asked them if there was a time/day she could stop in at our home and get visit with
the children/answer questions.
Now our school is a smaller church school so there have been several times I have been
surprised by the personal touch. But I said to another member of the church that I thought
it was so nice that the teacher does this and she said the Kindergarten teacher before never
did the home visits. It was this particular teachers idea to start this. I wish more teachers
gave a small personal touch.

I teach in a public elementary school (K-5) and none of my colleagues would do something like this. I teach children older than yours, but I do call each parent sometime during the first week to ask how their child seems to be adjusting to the new school year and give them a chance to mention any concerns they are developing. And if anyone new to our district happens to be in my class, I call them the week before school starts to alleviate parents' anxiety. I actually think kour principal would not allow us to conduct home visits for some reason.
