Britax Regent question....

We have a britax regent for my 19 month old and his shoulders appear to be level with the second harness slots (judging by the shell, not the cover). What I'm wondering is, because the harness slots are quite wide/thick (maybe a centimeter), can I wait until he's level with the top of the harness slot before I move it up? I hope that makes sense. The actual part that you thread the harness through is much bigger than other cars seats. Like on the marathon the slots were literally just a few millimeters thick. The regent's are about a centimeter, maybe a little more. So his shoulders come up to the bottom of that and he has a whole centimeter before he hits the top of the harness slot.

I'm probably rambling like a moron now. Hopefully someone knows what I'm describing. :

That centimeter will mean a world of difference to me. I *just* got his seat installed perfectly (and it took two adults to do it). I also hate how high up the next slots are. I feel like he's not as secure when the harness is in the slots 2 inches above his shoulders.

Shauna,

If forward facing, the recommendation is for the harness slots to be AT or ABOVE the child's shoulders. In addition, the harness straps need to be through the uppermost and reinforced slots only. In your case with the Regent, you do not need to worry about which ones are reinforced and which ones aren't. They are all reinforced.

I know they are supposed to be at or above the shoulder. I took a picture since it's so hard to explain what I'm asking.

In the picture, you can see that the harness is right under my two fingers. My fingers, stacked on top of each other, are actually through the harness slot of the shell. The slot is actually about an inch high. So my son's shoulders are where my finger is on the bottom. What I'm wondering is if I have to move the harness up now (or very soon) or can I wait until it's up to the top of my top finger where the top of the harness slot is. It would still technically be *at* the harness slot, it would just be on the higher end of it.

that's a really good question, and i'm not sure what the answer is, though i would say that the shoulders should be at or below the bottom of the harness slot. but, like i said, i'm really not sure.

Ok, hope I understand you correctly. When I speak of the harness slot, I mean the entire thing top to bottom. So if the shoulders are even with the top of the slot hole or fall at the bottom of the slot hole, it is still considered to be that his shoulders are AT the slot in effect. If you are getting a CPS tech to install your seat, I would go ahead and move the straps up a notch to the next harness slot position. This way you will not have to worry about adjusting the harness for awhile and having to take the seat out again any time soon to adjust for any height growth. Hope this helps.
