Ugh, i'm addicted to Electrasol 3 in 1 tabs for my dishwasher, we have hard water, and it seems to be the only thing commercially available that does a good job. I was a chef b4 having kids, so I am "creative" in the kitchen (that means I am a messy cook ) Plus we are a family of 6 and doing them by hand is not an option. At all Afterdoing laundry for 6 and having 2 babies in cloth diapers I really don't have time for any more washing...: So the ??? is is there a natural dishwashr detergent out there that works well? A homemade recipe? I am willing to try anthing once.

TIA, Kaara

You can find more natural dishwashing liquids and powders, but electrosol is basically baking soda with citric acid.

You can try baking soda and vinegar first. Throw a handful of baking soda in the bottom of your dishwasher. Pour some white vinegar into the Jet Dry (rinse aid dispenser) dispenser in your dishwasher. Add 1/2 to full amount of detergent. See if this works. If you get clouding, try less detergent. If that still doesn't work, get some clear/colorless as possible Crystal Light or LemonAid powder mix and add that to the baking soda (for citric acid).

I just tried Trader Joes powdered detergent and LOVE it! It's cheap (only like $2.50 a box), it has no chlorine/bleach or phosphates in it, is boidegradeable, and environmentally safe as well.

I was using Method dish cubes for nearly a year, but they started leaving a powdery residue on my dishes. So far so good with the TJ's stuff though

I've tried 'em all, nothing "natural" gets our dishes as clean as I want them to be. Every few years I decide to retry the natural brands to see if they've improved, but they never do. I'm sticking with my Cascade - I use less than half the amount they suggest and my dishes still sparkle.

Where in Delaware are you, Kaara?

There's a TJ's in Wilmington on 202, a Whole Foods on South St, Phila., an ikea in Phila, about 30 miles north of Wilmington.

How far are you from Baltimore? I lived in Silver Spring for a while, and I know a lot of people commuted from S Delaware. If you are ever in Baltimore for a long weekend or something, you should stock up. I know there is WF there and maybe a TJs too. Silver Spring has both if you are ever that way.

kyndmamaof4, I kwym about only having Target and Wal-Mart.
It sucks! If Target doesn't have it, I usually just do without or order from someplace online.

I do not feel like giving Wal-Mart any more "roll-back cheese". I detest that place like nothing else in my life. :

We live in a fairly large city, but it is more like a small town as far as shopping goes. We do have a mall, but even that is terrible. It is full of the dollar type stores...

doesnt target stock 7th gen now?
we use 7th generation dishwashing powder in our machine. and i also squirt my "super mix"(1/8c charlies laundry powder in an old dish soap squirt bottle mixed with water) ontop of the dish powder and a dash into the dishes area.
everything comes out sparking clean.
and we dont use jetdry
if we "need" something like that (and we rarely do) we use the ecover brand jet dry. all natural, and works well

Unforunately, only a select amount of Targets carry Seventh Generation products.

I'm watching closely because I, too, am an Electrosol 3/1 tab addict. It's my last "regular product" holdout We live in farmland area and our water often REEKS like fish and these are the only thing that leaves my dishes smelling like something I could actually eat or drink from No TJs here either: we do have WF but can't afford to shop there regularly!:
