It just has to be pulled straight out. I suppose some people could have it way high in the uterus, or imbedded (happened to my mom, actually), so that could be a problem. But if you can feel it, and can tell it's loose, why the hell not take it out yourself? I'd definately do it, even though medical is free here in canada.
