How Do I Remove The Gel From an Aloe Vera?

My daughter just broke a whole stem off of my Aloe Vera plant. I'd like to take the gel out of the inside but I've never done it before. How do I go about doing that and what do I put it in? Can I put it in a baby food jar? Will a plastic tupperware container work? And how long will it stay "good" if I put it in a jar? A few days? A month? A year? So many questions! lol.

You can slice the leave open lengthwise and scrape and squeeze it out or you can just start squeezing from the end, like a tube of toothpaste.

Clean jar, and I'd keep it in the refrigerator since there are no preservatives.

I don't know if adding vitamin E would help it stay good or not, hence my frig suggestion.

I've got some commercial pure-except-for-a-bit-of-preservative aloe vera that we've had for a couple of years. Still works.

I never even thought about the fridge. I'll definitely put it in there.

There is this..weird bright yellow liquid coming from the bottom part of the broken stem. Is that normal?

I wonder how you can tell if aloe vera gel has gone bad? Is it possible? lol
