Elevated FSh and IUI+clomid,success or not?

HI Ladies a couple questions..... My Fsh was 12.8 Iam 34 and shocked that it is not normal. : I just had my son 3 yrs ago, right away after trying.
What have you heard about FSH? Levels? and does IUI even give better chances w/this level elevated?
Anyone have good success with a level like this, and what worked?

I had my consult today w/RE. I was happy to hear that my 12.8 FSh level, is not dooms day, he just said it's a red flag and time is running out. He also said this score does mean since my eggs supply,is lower that they are not bad eggs. He said being under 35, the eggs are still good. They are typical of a 34yrold, sure 25 yrold have better eggs, But the eggs left are still should be good. So, quality is good, quantity is limited.
We are going to do Clomid+IUI. No insurance so maybe only 2 or 3 tries.

We are on our 3rd cycle of IUI + Clomid right now and HSG is the one test I never had done. At first, I couldn't get a clear answer as to how it would change our treatment protocol, and later when I wanted to have it tested, I couldn't get in on the right day because of a holiday. I think I am still going to have it done, just so we can know if it is worth even trying anymore on our own (after this month, I am done with the RE due to financial constraints, as we are paying out of pocket also).

I too found out at 34 that my fsh was 12 and I had diminished ovarian reserve (determined by ultrasound). I went on to conceive my dd shortly thereafter. But in my case at least it was a sign that I was moving pretty quickly toward menopause. I'm now 38 and my cycles have shortened drastically (some are 21-22 days); I don't think I'm ovulating regularly and I'm getting several menopause symptoms including insomnia, irritability, (warning TMI), vaginal dryness and massively decreased libido. Everone is different, though. Myy friend's wife was in a very similar situation and then ended up pregnant with #3 totally unexpectedly.

highfsh.org has many informative boards on high fsh, reproductive technologies, and the like. They move fast but you can learn a ton there.

Yes, what your RE and the above poster says is right. Elevated FSH means your egg supply is getting lower and menopause is likely to be earlier for you than in someone your age with lower FSH, but at 34, your egg quality should still be good. However, elevated FSH can mean that it is harder for the doctors to get you to respond to fertility drugs: you may need much higher doses to get you to produce multiple eggs, and/or a special drugs protocol, and the number of follicles you produce may be lower than someone with lower FSH. In the end though, egg and embryo quality are the most important factors - not numbers; one or two good embryos are better than multiple poor quality ones.
