plastic vs.rubber....

ok so my MIL now unserdtans that we dont do plastic but she still seems to miss the point b/c now shes buying all things rubber... like this cheap ugly doll from walmart *sigh* she IS trying though so help me out here...
is rubber as bad as plastic? is it thesame thing as plastic? i need good references,points to show her/talk to her about.

Maybe take another approach? Convincing her of how bad plastics are might be difficult, maybe it would be easier just to tell her that you would prefer toys/clothing made from *natural materials*, especially cotton and wood.

You might be able to point her to some sources for toys that fit your needs. Would she shop online? Or is there a local toystore that carries items that you like? It would be difficult for her to find toys made from natural materials in WM.

sadly she ONLY shops at walmart she wont shop online b/c she just started using a computer and is scared of them. but maybe i can convince her to let me buy them online for her... my mom does that now. for dd's birthday next month my mom bought her a waldorf doll made to look like her. she just sent me a check and then i ordered it online im so happy about that!

Rubber is a natural material, like in tires, some erasers, and other products. You may be thinking of vinyl, which is synthetic. True rubber is sustainable and is very environmentally friendly.

Also, plastic that is made for microwaves and dishwashers are not as harmful (very little effect) from lower quality plastics or plastic not microwave or dishwasher safe. And just because nothing happens to certain containers doesn't mean it's microwave/dishwasher safe. It has to say so.

For example: don't reheat things in styrofoam, paper or plastic that are used for takeout or from the grocery store (tv dinner plates) etc. These are for bringing things home.
