My son who is 6, in 1st grade, is in a small private school, in a multi grade class w/ 10 other kids, he came home yestrday and i said "im so glad you at all your lunch, were you hungry? and he mommy theres just lunch, and i said what do you mean? and he said we dont have snack like in kindergarden..so I went in and talked to the teacher/principal and she said they do not have snack time, and as long as he has a big breakfast he will be fine and "get used to it" they have lunch at 11:30 and leave school @ 3:00.. I was sort of awe struck and said ok see you later... lets see how this goes. They drink water all day and are supposed to bring in water bottles to keep at their desk, im not worried about my little guy starving, but i know hes a grazer, i hope he can adjust. am I freaking out over this too much?: should i demand he take something to eat at recess?

I think you have every right to specify that your child be allowed to have a snack at certain times. I have worked in private schools and parents are usuallly allowed to make special requests since they are paying big bucks.

Even my high school had a 10 minute "nutrition break."
Now I teach jr. high. They don't have a "break" but they have 5 minutes between each class and EVERYONE snacks during those breaks. So, to me, a first grader not having a snack is crazy.
