Is it too weird for the mama of a 3yo to go to elementary PTA meetings?

My oldest child is 34 months and won't be going to school until Fall 2009. I hear good things and bad things about the school. It'a K-2 (the city paired elementary schools in high and low SES neighborhoods, so for the first 3 years the kids come to my neighborhood, and for the 2nd 3 they go to the other neighborhood school). A lot of parents around here are freaked out about the paired school arrangement and send their kids to private/parochial schools instead. We are big believers in public schooling and want to be actively involved to help our school be the best it can be. Would it be inappropriate/strange for us to start attening PTA meetings now?

I would call and talk to the principal and the PTA president.

as a general rule I would say strange but not at all inappropriate and totally refreshing.

in light of your situation it doesn't even seem at all strange.

Based on my experience - no it's not weird. I attended the kindy orientation when my child was barely 3 and was ready to join the PTA. Same thing - DH and I are big believers in PS, but the middle class FLEE the public schools after middle school. I want to stay and make a difference!
