Has anyone used or are using the Calvert Virtual Academy? Calvert Math?

I just enrolled my DD in this for 8th grade. She had to take a placement test, and they placed her in 5th garde math!! I know she's had trouble with math but this seems really low level. She's only been homeschooled for a year, the year before last, so this is new to us. We did our own curriculum before, piecemeal, and it sucked. I have too much on my plate to keep track of lesson plans and things like that.

If you use or used the CSVA what worked and didn't? Did or do you like it? How does your child do or how does your dc like it? Is there anything else I should know?

We can't do the 5th grade math online, but we did choose to do it with teacher support. Is the ATS (teacher support) worth it? How is their math curriculum? I got their math manipulatives to go with it, are these worth it too?

So many questions, such a small forum.
Basically any info you have on Calvert and your experiences would be cool to read.

TIA for any input you have to share...

Never used it myself, but I am pretty sure there are a few here who have, or do. Hopefully they'll give you some helpful info.

Good Luck!

I wanted to say I use Calvert but for pre-k. Is there a teacher you can contact through the website? Also, I believe there is a forum on their site. Can you ask someone there?

I haven't used the math but have been told it's similar to saxon. Rigorous but repetitive.

I have 6th grade calvert math we aren't using, could sell if you want.

A friend of mine did "regular" Calvert with her kids for two years and said it was the best thing she ever did. Her kids progressed really quickly and learned a lot. Her daughter placed two grade levels below in Math... which shocked my friends as she had gotten all As and Bs at her "A+" rated public school. My guess is your daughter probably needs to review some concepts, but will progress quickly.
