My 17 month old DS has developed 2 cavities and has quite a bit of discolouration on the other upper front teeth. Visiting dentists has been superbly unhelpful - from "sorry he's too young for us to do anything" to "we need to get him under GA to fix it" (how, I'm not sure). I was even too nervous to mention the all-night nursing as I am sure they would just blame it completely on this.
So I decided to just investigate the matter myself and try the prevention is better than cure approach for the moment. Firstly I introduced flouride toothpaste once a day and many other daily brushings with just water. Now I believe that he has an intolerance to the flouride and have cut it out.
I have also read here that Cod Liver Oil is recommended to help strengthen enamel and prevent decay. Is this in addition to Vit A & D supplements, or are these the 2 vitamins in the oil that provide the main benefits? But I have now been advised to avoid CLO due to the high level of toxins that are common in such fish oils - particularly the liver. That an Omega-3 supplement would be better. Does anyone know if this would provide the same dental benefits as the CLO?
Are there any other steps/supplements that I can take to help things (apart from watching the diet and brushing more?)
Thanks
