Wedding attire/decorations

Wanna help design a wedding, crafty mamas?

PLLLLLLEEEEEASE?

If you haven't seen the other threads - we're doing a LOW-key validation ceremony. We found a really nice, new Moose Lodge (:LOL) near our new home and we're going to rent the back hall. It overlooks a HUGE pond and I think it will be very nice come December. (The pond is surrounded by woods, so it's about as earthy as I'm going to get in December, I fear).

The wedding is in the church, so there are some regulations there. I'm thinking of wearing pants and a peasant top (all in hemp linen, I think- all unbleached in color). I will probably be 5-6 months pregnant by then, and I am NOT a "dress person.

My dear friend last night suggested I glue silk flowers to a pair of white birks - :LOL DEFINITELY going to do that!!!

Anyway, I need ideas to decorate the hall, since I think that's where we'll spend most of our time that evening.

I want it to be pretty, but not tulle and ribbons everywhere.
I want kid-friendly ALL THE WAY (we have four already and there are TONS in our family - I do NOT want this to be a "sit still" and "use your manners" type of reception)
I want something that personifies US - natural fibers, recyclable materials, etc. (No balloons or items that will go to waste at the end of the day).
It does NOT have to be fancy - we'll probably have a buffet and the karaoke lady is going to be our DJ!!!! :LOL

I am even considering covering the tables with some kind of parchment or butcher paper and putting crayons out. My friend said I should get all gold crayons.

For centerpieces I was thinking white poinsettias with the gold foil wrap outside the plastic thingys.

PLEASE help with any suggestions on organizing this so that it isn't trashy!

I think butcher paper and crayo9ns on the table is an excellent idea. Pointsettias are a nice idea, but remember that they ARE poisenos (sp), so be sure to keep them out of reach of the little ones. Could your kids make some decorations?

I vote hundres of christmas tree ligts. White, not the colored ones (you can sell of donate them when you are done). These make for the perfect soft lighting and twinkeling starts sort of effect. Candles too are a nice addition but with a lot of little kids running around that might not be a great idea. i love the flowery birks and gold crayon ideas. very cool.

i think i posted ideas in th eother thread

i watned to add that dharmatrading.com has dye sticks (aka crayons) for kids to do stuff on fabric that is permanent

so if you wanted to have a couple dozen squares that everyone decorates and then sew them intoa quilt

or have a big cloth that can be your table cloth

tee shirts adn they take it home!!

dharma also has tons of blank cloth products incl. clothing and cottons etc.

you may find stuff in there you want for the wedding

i KNOW they had these pretty bags for putting stuff into like for weddings/etc. you could popourri or just other stuff

the more you buy at dharma the lower the price goes too

How about some luminaries around the pond-that would be a great view (if it's in the evening, of course) You can buy these premade with designs cut out or make your own.

I think it would be beautiful to have sparkly snowflakes hanging all around-get some shiny/sparkly tissue paper or something that you like and make the cut out snowflakes. Your kids could help too depending on their age. You could hang these from ceiling or just in door ways. You could use these as doilies too on the tables under the flowers and on your food table to tie things together. If you really wanted to get a theme going you could make some small snowflakes out of beads and wire for your hair or in a small headpiece.

The last thing might be a cool ice sculpture for your punch bowl. I'v enever done one but heard a friend say simple ones are easy to make with a bunt pan or other shaped pan and some starfruit or other thing frozen in the mold. This can be in a punch bowl or freestanding as a decoration-in the proper container of course so it doesn't melt over your table.

Good luck!

What a great idea - the luminaries around the pond! It's a HUGE pond, so not too realistic on the "woods" side, but maybe around the area where the entrance to the hall is!!

I checked out Dharma (which I've had CS problems with before) and saw the dye crayons. Those are pretty darn clever!!
