Have you decided on birth control?

Thread Starter
For some reason, I thought once E arrived, I could focus more on making a decision about birth control. I'm now less than 2 weeks from my appt and I want to have a decision made.

Right now, I'm heavily considering the IUD. It still freaks me out a little bit, but it seems to be the best fit for us. At this point, I'm fairly certain it will be 2-4 years before we start thinking about adding to our family again. I won't do bc pills again because I don't remember to take them reliably. And, I'd be even worse with temping to avoid. Charting makes me CRAZY because of the whole temping at wakeup each day - I get so nervous about forgetting, that I end up not sleeping most of the night. :

So anyway, what are you doing? Anyone have the IUD and love or hate it?

I'm doing NFP once it gets closer to that time.

I did the IUD (the Mirena) and I *hated* it with an absolute passion. I bled and bled and bled on it - finally I stopped bleeding but my immune system (that had been trying to get rid of it with the bleeding) shut down (honestly) and I got sick from that point forward for WEEKS - both influenzas, strep throat, etc. By the time I figured out all this I had to go through intense acupuncture to fix my hormones and got that thing out asap. Not worth it to me, my body despised it and so did I.

However I know lots of people who like it, but not me.

I was intending to do the IUD after dd was born, but never got around to it
I totally thinking I will this time, but probably not the Mirena because it is hormonal and I don't want anything hormonal going on. DH will get the snip when we are ready, but as we haven't totally ruled out the possibility of a 3rd child, we aren't quite ready to do something so irreversible. (Funny - 5 days ago, I was saying NO WAY to another baby after this labor experience!) I don't get up at a reliable time to do NFP to prevent, nor do I sleep well enough. And barrier methods seem so unreliable and, well, messy to me. And the surveys done of mw and female obs say that is the choice they tend to make (IUD, I mean).

We're ready for some permanent BC...I am trying to nudge hubby toward the big V.

We used NFP for a long time and loved it but I got sloppy about 10 months ago.......and we now have a beautiful daughter named Patience.

We can't afford any more surprises

Dh is going to get the "snip" But we haven't started trying to find a dr to do it. So right now we are just avoiding each other, fun, not!

We'll be using condoms. The plan was for dh to get the big V when we were done. I really don't want him to get one though. I'm just never going to bring it up!!! We'll have to see what happens. I really don't want to be done.

I have a IUD that i got at 6 weeks pp. And i LOVE it. I spotted about once a month for about a day then nothing. It is nice. The insertion was a breeze! And was painless. Right after i got it i felt this sense of relief knowing that i didn't have to worry for 5 years!
And you can always have it taken out if you don't like it.

I got an iud, not the minera the copper one. The insertation as painful but other than some discomfort that day its been great. The copper one is good for ten years too
I have to say that is it very liberating dh and I have had a rather busy weekend

Combination of NFP and a diaphragm for my fertile days (and we also abstain on my most fertile days). Worked perfectly for us for 18 months, and then I got pg my first month using NFP to get pregnant. Hormonal bc makes me crazy and the non-hormone IUD just doesn't sound appealing to me.

I won't do anything with hormones, b/c I was on the pill for about 5 years and it messed up my system so that I was unable to get a period without taking progesterone for a year. B/c of that, I had to go on Clomid to conceive DD#1. We will just use condoms.

DH will be getting the big V. I am a bit sad that this stage of our life is over, but age and the extreme stress of pregnancy make this the right choice for us.

I'm only 2 weeks post partum, so it's a little out of my thought process still.... Until we're done with BF'ing, it'll probably be condoms only. However, when we're done BF'ing, I'll probably use the Nuvaring (lower blood levels of chemicals than the pill, easier to insert than a diaphragm, and only have to remember to change it every 3 weeks...)

Wonder if at some point I'll actually be ready for anything requiring birth control?

I have this odd feeling that I don't want to use birth control this time : . Who knows!?!#@!
If I make it to 6 months pp not pregnant I'll likely use NFP with a BabyComp again.

Is there any concern with going back on the pill while breastfeeding? I was on it before conceiving, and had no problems. Because of endometriosis and difficult periods, I'd like to go back on the pill... but not if it's bad for baby, who's due any day now.

You may experience supply issues while nursing and taking hormonal birth control.

I keep having UC thoughts :

I don't think we're going to use anything, either.

This baby took 2+ years to conceive, and we would love to have another fairly quickly (within 2 years preferably), so nothing will work fine. Although, I have to say that, if we decide on something, it'll be what we used before the 2+ years of trying....pull and pray.

We're not very good birth control people.:
