breastfeeding in Jewish calendar

Our Jewish calendar has a different halakhic ("The Way" or Jewish law) question and answer every month. February's q/a is about breastfeeding in public and in a synagogue. The answer is Yes, it's quite all right to breastfeed in public, in synagogue, and while studying Torah (Bible), and while in the presence of a man who is praying. A woman should still be modest and discrete while nursing. The last two sentences in this article are: "'That you may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolation; that you may drink deeply, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory' (Isaiah 66:11). Jewish institutions, in particular, have an obligation to welcome, facilitate, and support nursing mothers and their babies." This calendar is being sent to members of Conservative congregations around the country. Many many people will read it. Woo hoo!

Maybe he's a member of a conservative shul?

One can hope, eh?

It's nice to religions being supportive.

I can't think off the top of my head of any religion that doesn't support breastfeeding....

Scientology? At least I thought I'd read that they only support breastfeeding if the mother has a perfectly healthy diet or something?

There was a sect of Baptists who came out against it a year or so ago.

really...

Doesn't make sense to me. Religions are usually based around either a divine creator or nature. They worship Gods, Goddesses, nature, etc. as perfect. Now why, if we were created by someone perfect, would we be created wrong? That is a huge part of the reason I am pro-bf and anti-circ. Even without looking at benefits of these decisions or risks of other decisions-- we were MADE to breastfeed.

Oh, jeez, that brings up a whole new worry that breasts will someday be viewed the way the foreskin is. :
