Need Help teaching How to Swallow Pills - Page 2

alegna - thats an awesome way to show kids! I love it!

We find that they can swallow anything with 7-up. Not so much healthy, but its fizzy so they cant "feel" the pill in their mouth. I think its the feeling of having the pill - it feels soooo huge! Our minds play tricks on us. That might be why alegna's g-mas method worked?

Anyhoo, we use 7up and a heres a pill to take, no big deal method. We kinda downplay it.....

the way I take a pill is to get a mouthful of water, tilt my head back so none of the water spills out, and open my mouth and drop the pill in. If I try to do it any other way I gag. It isn't pretty, but it works.

have them hold water in their mouths FIRST and then slide the pill in. That's still the only way I can take pills.

thick milkshakes do the trick

we tried everything with our hysterical daughter who hated any of the liquid medicines and chewable vitamins because of the artificial fruit flavour. when she had to have pain killers after an operation, the ER nurse suggested we make her a milkshake out of frozen bananas, milk and cocoa. did the trick. now she doesn't even need the milkshake and can do pills with water.
