Well, this is strange:

Quote:
In contrast, said Dr. Lori Feldman-Winter, an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Breastfeeding, her patients cannot afford a basic $50 breast pump — an investment, she said, that "could prevent a lifetime of diseases."
But they can afford $2000-3000 for formula each year? That I don't get.

But, yes, the rest of the article was terribly frustrating, especially:

Quote:
According to the complaint she filed with the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, the restaurant ignored a note she brought from her nurse explaining her need to pump. The managers cut Walker's hours, assigned her to the worst tables and ridiculed her— for instance, jiggling the restaurant's milk containers and joking that they were for her. Eventually Walker's milk ducts clogged, landing her in the hospital with mastitis.

Food stamps or WIC will pay for formula. WHile some WIC offices offer pumps, many have a limited number, or only give them out to full time workers, and many employers keep people under 40 hours to avoid benefits/OT/etc.

Ah, I know our WIC office here loans breastpumps for free (even if you are not employed fulltime) and increases the number of food coupons you receive if you BF. Guess that's not the case elsewhere

This is so sad, but true.

I pump in my office, no questions asked. No one cares how long my door is closed, but I do plenty of work while pumping. Pumping is prime returing phone calls and doind dictation time.

The receptionist in my office did not even bother trying to BF because there was no where for her to go, (I mentioned that there are plenty of people not using there offices, in the field, and she said that would be weird.) but even more restrictive were her break time.

Sad.
