Where'd all the no-pooers go?

Dh and I started no-pooing at the end of April and I just wanted to put in my two cents worth about how luxurious my hair has become. I use bs with an acv rinse and once a week or every other week I condition the tips with a dot of ouidad conditioner (I'm almost out of it but I think what I have in the bottle will last me another year at the rate I'm using it ).
Anyway, my stylist has been commenting on how healthy my hair is but she doesn't believe me when I tell her what I use. Too funny.
Dh used to have a dry, flaky (not dandruff), itchy scalp and that went away within the first few weeks.

Anyway, just wondering where all the no-pooer went because back in April there were a ton of threads about it (which is what prompted us to make the switch). Especially the posts made by spastica .:

I'm a no-pooer!

I've been doing the BS & ACV thing for about a year. Still can't get dh to try it: "I want to smell like a person, not a salad!"

But I love it, and have no intention of going back to shampoo.

: I'm still here! DH and I have been using no-poo balls and acv rince 1- 2 times a week for almost a moth now and, I wasn't expecting this, but the effects were immediate. I had very bad buildup and after the first wash I noticed a difference. My hair isn't dry so I don't condition it, but I spray it with a mix of eo's and water (Which is really my air freshener) I really love how all of my "products" now have multiple uses!

Thankoo!

I'm still here too. I got all excited because the whole no-poo thing was so...for lack of better words "HOW COME NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT THIS BEFORE???" realization/syndrome, and I had no clue how to take care of my curly hair. I don't hate my hate anymore. I made my peace with it, lol.

I know what you mean about having an arsenal of multi-purpose products. My friends, coworkers, and family think I'm totally nuts, but sometimes, when they're in pain or complaining about something, I whip up something with my essential oils and give it to them and they're like "um..,er...gee, I dunno.... hey...this actually works!"

I love that I can use my diluted vinegar and essential oil mixture as air freshener, laundry stain pre-treatment, carpet deodorizer, and tub cleaner/soap deposit-attacker.

As for people who hate the thought of the 'salad' thing - you don't actually smell like a salad - but if it helps, you can use lightweight, silicone-free conditioner and baking soda, so it *feels* more like a shampoo. You can then do your scalp scrub, let it sit, rinse, do your ACV method, rinse, and add some more conditioner, rinse well.

My hair has also been doing great with just the conditioner and brown sugar, which I do every other day.

Whenever I no-poo, I add a couple drops of my lavender/tea tree oil mixture that I keep by the tub. I put it in a travel shampoo bottle (from walmart - it's a clear plastic tube for you to put whatever you want in it -- like lotion, shampoo, conditioner, etc). The same bottle does well for when I mix it with baking soda to do a facial, armpit scrub etc.

I love, love, love essential oils!

I'm trying to be a no-poo'er but I keep misplacing the BS: water and ACV: water ratios. So I've just been making a BS paste and scrubbing my scalp and then conditioning. So far the results aren't fantastic, but I'm still excited to have a real go at it. I hatehatehate my curly hair, but trying to flat iron hair that's over 2 foot long is ridiculous.

Does anyone happen to have to ratios handy? :

I saw this on my way to the curly girls thread in Finding your tribe...there's lots of info and links there......

I never really measured anything so carefully.

Step one: wet hair
step two: mix up some baking soda and water into a paste in my hand
step three: rinse with plain water
step four: rince with diluted vinegar
step fice: rinse with more plan water

I have a 16oz plastic cup that I keep in my shower- I put in a splash (maybe 2 tbsp? maybe an ounce?) of vinegar and fill up the rest of the cup with water.

Lately, I've been using Dr Bronner's peppermint soap in place of the BS. I also added some tea tree oil to the soap, and will probably buy the TTO flavor when the bottle is used up. I've been doing that since the beginning of the lice problem in my house, in additon to the rosemary/lavendar spray we've all been using at least twice a day.

spastica... brown sugar???? !!! ??? :
I think I may have missed something.

And you mix your conditioner with the bs? And it works? hmph.

I am a curly girl. Mostly straight after two pregnancies (those damn hormones sure do screw with a lot) but with baby hairs coming out that are looking pretty curly again.

Hopefully no pooing will make my curly hair that's coming out (and will hopefully replace this mop I've got now) so vibrantly bouncy and healthy so I won't long for straight hair anymore (I'm so done with straight anymore).

i'm still no-pooing. i use either nothing for "shampoo" or a shampoo bar made from a friend of mine (with all food products)... then nature's gate conditioner. then coconut oil when i get out of the shower.

my link in my sig has lots of pics of my hair with no-poo, and the guy in the pics mostly does no-poo now too.

Willemsmama,

Yeah, brown sugar!

Human hair and skin are on the acidic side, but curly hair seems to love acids even more. Sugar actually has glycolic acid (which is why it's great for acne-prone skin too), so it helps with keeping curls shiny. When your hair isn't dry, damaged or frizzy, the curls hold well together.

We have been no-poo'ers for almost 3 years. Still love it.

My favourite is to use a paste of baking soda and honey with a little rosemary (though dh prefers peppermint) EO. I use it on the face and body as well.

For conditioner I use a mixture of yoghurt and egg. Cold and slimey for sure, but my hair is so SHINY! I add lavender as well.

I've been no poo for about 2.5 years now. I'll never go back to poo! Even when I'm on vacation I just bring a little baggie of BS and a little travel bottle of vinegar. When I started I did it really fancy....added honey to the water and BS and then did a lavender rinse at the end, after the vinegar rinse. Now, I just have an old odwalla bottle in the shower. I put in some BS, add hot water, pour it over my wet hair and scrub. Same with the vinegar...use the same bottle, just add a little vinegar and water and pour it over my head. It's so easy. I've told about a million people about it, and they all compliment my hair and think it sounds neat but I can tell they don't really believe it. Oh well.

My kids have basically been no poo these 2.5 years as well. They usually take baths instead of showers and I just pour some vinegar in their bath. I never use BS on them. Sometimes though they have bubble baths for fun so they do end up getting actual soap in their hair once in a while. I guess they're still no poo...

Ive been no-poo since april I think, maybe march. I usually use lemon juice instead of vinegar because I found that when it rained and my hair got wet it did smell like vinegar. Ill use vinegar in a pinch tho. I have actually been doing the bs thing then using a conditioner on my hair but might go back to using vinegar or lemon juice since the weather is changing. My hair always changes with the seasons. Its pretty wavy and thick. I tried the bs with honey mixture and it doesnt work well with my hair. It left my hair too course and fluffy. Its ok if I want a wild look but if I want manageable I dont use it. I love the bs wash tho. I might use egg soon too.

Yes, I don't have a strict routine for no-poo either - my hair is moody and it changes with the season too.

Another no-poo curly girl here! Hi Spastica! Yup the brown sugar & conditioner is working wonders!

It'll be 2 years this December that I"ve been no-pooing.

I don't measure so much, just make a slurry of a half scoop or so of baking soda and some honey in the big cup while in the shower, pour it through my hair and scrub. Then I gather my hair up into a bun on top of my head to do the rest of my shower. Rinse the wash stuff out, then mix a few tsp of lime juice powder into the cup, swish the ends, then pour it all over and through my hair. I usually condition the ends, since they seem to need it.

I just wanted to add that I hadn't been doing the bs and conditioner thing but I tried it and it's marvelous. I wondered why some days my hair was stiff at the ends even after extra rinsing.
Oh and... I convinced my mom to no-poo!!! I don't expect her to stick with it but it was pretty cool that she tried it anyway.

Does no-poo work for colored/highlighted hair? I'm dying to try this!
