Where'd all the no-pooers go? - Page 2

My hair is highlighted and it doesn't seem to affect it (color or moisture wise).

I went no poo in June and I love it!!
I don't use anything in my hair for weeks (just water) and then once in a while I will use a bit of BS and ACV for a rince and then I am ok for another few weeks....

Not only does my hair look and feel amazing, it is much more manageable and the greatest thing is that I have no more skin problems either... My scalp is no longer itchy and I haven't had a pimple since!

My kids have always been poo free and they will stay like that too...

Now to get DH on board...

Anyone have suggestions for poo-free and Seborrheic dermatitis (like Cradle Cap)... If he doesn't wash his hair with the really chemical stuff (really gross stuff) then he gets big patches of itchy and flakey skin and will even start to bleed..

I have Seborrheic dermatitis! I would really love to no-poo but am afraid that I will still have an itchy scalp. It can get so bad that I want to cry! So I'd also love to know if this will still work. Also, I have long slightly wavy hair. I'd love to have the luxurious hair that all of you talk about but there are so many diferent ways to no-poo. How do I know where to start???

I actually decided to go really check what options are out there for DH and it sems that for many people ACV is a natural remedy for it!!!!
Google ACV and Seborrheic dermatitis and you will see it is everywhere... (why didn't I look sooner )

I am going to tell DH as soon as he is done the dishes... (wouldn't want to disturb him doing that )

Oh... I also have the long and slightly wavy hair

paxye- I am actually excited to take my shower tomorrow!!! I can't wait to tell my sisters and mother about this too. We seem to have a constant problem with acne and I wouldn't be surprised if it is because of the chemicals in the shampoo that are being absorbed into our skin.

Hi fellow no 'pooers!

I am pleased to report that I FINALLY stuck it out through the adjustment period and my hair is freaking AWESOME! I got out of the shower yesterday, it dried incredibly quickly and even DH asked me what I did to it. And DH never notices anything. I could walk in bald and he'd be hard pressed to figure out what was different.

So, I'm a happy no 'pooer.

It's been 10-11 months since I've used shampoo.

How long is the typical adjustment period? I am going to start with bs and acv today but I have an appointment to get my hair cut next Wednesday. Should I have my hair dresser just use a detangler at the washing?

I usually tell people to use baking soda with their current shampoo to get rid of residue and buildup. The shampoos at salons do that too but are more moisturizing because they include other ingredients and silicones. Not all silicones are bad, but not everybody wants to figure out what's good and what's bad, so I tell people just to avoid them altogether and not even bother worrying about it. Most people I talk to just say "Spazzy, make it simple-stupid for me, I don't want to think about it..." so I accommodate.

I just think it's good to start on a clean slate and get the gunk out of your hair before starting no-poo, but that's just me. This also lets you get familiar with using baking soda and get familiar with 'scalp scrubbing' as posted in the sticky. Once your scalp and hair is stripped of all the usual products (1-2 weeks), I think it's good to start no poo.

I really did notice the adjustment period... I was in the pool everyday pretty much and kept my hair up for a few weeks... when I would shower I would just rinse it out and then put it back up in my usual "doo"... it wasn't really a concious decision... It is just the way that I always did it anyways..

After a few weeks though I do remember wanting it down more because it was noticably softer and fuller and it just looked nicer...

I've been poo-free since Feb and loving it

I always had really painfull scalp issues, sweat would trigger horridly painfull itching, some times nothing at all would trigger it, just started all on its own. Within weeks of switching it was gone. I did notice that the BS really bothered my scalp after a while. I only use it occasionally now. I usually use just a vinegar rinse, or just plain water. I also noticed after reading on a link (posted here somewhere) that the dryness of my hair was screwing up the curliness. But honey as a moisturizer just didn't work for me. So I tried using some oil (almond) and just massaged my scalp really well with it, and just clipped my hair up, so it just soaked in. So every couple weeks I repeat that. It gives me the best curls I've ever had. And my color has changed, instead of just brown, I now have deep chocolate brown, which is really nice
