My kids have been on a horrible schedual all summer- and school starts again on Thursday! The problem was that they simply couldn't fall asleep at 8:00 or 9:00 after a month of going to bed at 11:00 or later- and of course if they don't fall asleep at a reasonable time they're not going to wake up in a good mood on time either.
I bought some sublingual melatonin (1mg) today, and gave it to the kids around 8: 30, as soon as they had their jammies on and their teeth brushed. The girls fell asleep around 8:45 (at least that's when they went into their bedroom, not sure if they fell asleep immediately but I didn't hear them) but DS had a harder time settling down to bed. I gave him a second melatonin tablet and he was asleep by 9:05. Previous attempts to get him to sleep before 10:00 PM have resulted in nothing but frustration, even when he was obviously tired by 7:00 and we spent a few hours "winding down." This is truly "magical"!!
I'm hoping I can get the kids on a good schedual and then stop using the melatonin within a week or so (except for getting back on track after vacations.) I can't beleive something so simple works so well!
