Cotton stretch Knit

When sewing with stretch cotton knits do i need to stretch teh fabric to match the pattern or just mark the fabric like normal? TIA girls i need some new pants for the gym tommorow lol

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but when you pin the paper pattern on the fabric, you don't stretch it. I just sewed a shirt with stretchy knit and the instructions said when sewing straight instead of serging to stretch while sewing.

You also need a stretch stitch on your machine. Have you checked? A plain staight stitch will pop and not allow the fabric to stretch. That could be why the pattern says to stretch it. It's assuming you aren't using a stretch stitch. I've had machine with them and many without, but they really do work for stretch fabrics.

If you have a stretch stitch, do you still need to stretch the material while sewing?

no, you wouldn't stretch the material while cutting or sewing. just hold it taught like you would any other fabric. If you stretch while cutting/marking or sewing you will wind up with a garment that is too small and misshapen.
