My dd has been attending a Montessori school since age 3. She's been wanting to go to "Kindergarten" since the beginning of last year. We decided to leave her in Montessori for her Kindergarten year, but she's built up Kindergarten as some magical place in her mind and she's really disappointed that she's going to Montessori for K.
Her school doesn't go beyond K (it's very small), so she'll be going to public school for 1st grade.
We know going to K in Montessori school is going to be better for her in the long run, but how do we convey that to her? She'll be learning more stuff in Montessori than regular K, there's only 9 kids in her class as opposed to 20 in public school. She already knows the teachers (although she has had trouble with the K teacher in the past. She's a bit more demanding than the other teachers). Most of her friends are still there. *sigh*
If I build up Montessori to be ever so much better to her than public school, am I going to screw myself once she starts 1st grade?
:
Thoughts? Anyone? She'll be 5 in November, so she meets our district's cut-off for K, and she's academically & socially ready for K.
