books on history of childbirth for my class?

I'm taking a class called Family, Sexuality, and Social Change in America and have to write a book review. I'm planning to write about the history of childbirth, but there are so many books! I thought this might be a good place to get rec's for the type of book I'm looking for. Any ideas? Thanks!

I read a book a while back called "The American Way of Birth" by Jessica Mitford.

I have a book that belonged to my mother (who used to be a natural childbirth educator) called Childbirth: Alternatives to Medical Control. Most of it is historical/anthropological in nature, a good (but dry) read.

A book on the sociological aspects of birth is "Rediscovering Birth" by Sheila Kitzinger
