I think this is one of those general rules... there are always rare exceptions (like your dd) but in general I think this is a good rule as it gives women more confidence than doctors would ever dream of giving them.

My dd was 8.5lbs, my ds was 10lbs even...funny enough my "big" baby was easier to birth.

I had a 10 pound 4 ounce baby who was 22 inches long. He was big and I had a 4th degree tear. I had a beautiful labor and delivery but the recovery had been very difficult. I don't regret my vaginal birth, but I have come to realize there is no easy was to get a 10 pound baby out of your body (mine came out at warp speed thus the tearing). I still might need surgery to repair damage

This is how I feel.

My ds was 10lbs, 8oz, and 24 inches long. His hand was up by his very large head (I believe it was at least 15 cm), and my mw had to hold my cervix open to help me get his head/hand through.

I did have a tear, from his hand or head, or her hand, neither felt good. Although I let it heal on it's own, it forever altered certain parts of me.

It took me over a month to feel like I could sit, stand, or even move. I was beyond exhausted, in such pain, and I have never forgotten any second of it, even though everyone assures me that I have.

I consider him a "big" baby, and will take a pass on ever having to deal with that weight, length and head size, ever again.

I don't want to be a hero.

HE was a BIG baby.

OOOOOOO! I got ya beat!

Okay, I don't, my grandma does.

My uncle (who is now 60 something I think) was 16 lbs. (And 9 wks "late.") Deliverated at home, unassisted.

Anytime the idea of natural child birth starts to freak me out a little, I think of that.

My grandma is my hero
