DS is 3 and is starting to be really into using the computer now that he has mastered the mouse. A lot of what he does is "educational" games, but I'm still hesitant to let him overdo it. How do you all handle it? Is it a media just like tv, ot somewhere in between? We have been allowing 30 min a day, which can be really helpfull when I'm putting the baby down for a nap. He probably watches about an hour of tv a week as well.........

We're about where you are with it. I do consider computer time to be screen time, like TV, and I think it's important to limit it. I think DS's time is much better spent in other types of play/work. (He's 3.5 yrs. old.)
However, the computer activities DS does are interactive (unlike TV), and it does help him practice certain skills (sorting, letters & numbers, singing songs, counting, fine motor, etc.). I try to use it only when I really need to step away with DD for a few minutes (usually when I need to nurse her down for a nap).
He doesn't watch TV at all at home. Occasionally he'll see a bit of Sesame Street or Mr. Rogers at Grandma's house, but that's about it.

DD is 2.75 years and loves the computer! She is really good with the mouse and loves all the interactive experiences you can get with a computer.
She sort of self limits herself to no more then about a half hour a day....2 15 minute sessions about. Since she does limit herself, I don't mind the occasional day that goes over for whatever reason.
She knows all her colors and alphabet from playing on the computer....so I really think it has to be considered a bit differently then TV where they can just sit zombie like in front of it.
