Reversible pants tag?

I've just finished three pairs of reversable pants for my daughter and I'm trying to figure out a way to mark the back so I can tell which way to put them on but so she can still wear them either way (and not have a tag sticking out one side). Anyone have any creative ideas?
Thanks,
Liv

What about a cute piece of ribbon appliqued in the back so it starts at the casing seamline, goes up and over the top, and back down to the other side of the casing seamline. No sticking out, available on both sides, and a cute accent to boot!

That's a cute idea, I will have to try that. I've always just done a small zig-zag stitch at thr back in the same colour thread as the rest of the seams. That way it's not noticable to anyone and when my DD gets dressed she knows which if front and which is back.

I've beenlooking for a pattern to make reversable pants, what pattern did you use?

I'll try to explain how I did it...

I used a basic pants pattern I have (Simplicity 5316).
* I cut and sewed two pairs of pants leaving the waist and cuff unfinished.
* Then I put them together (one inside the other) with the right sides together and sewed all the way around the waist.
* Then I turned them right side to (one inside the other) so now I had one pair of pants connected at the waist.
* Next I turned in and ironed the cuffs on both the inside and outside pair and sewed around to seal off the cuff on each leg.
* Then I went back up to the waist and sewed around it again to create a tube for my elastic (so mine was about 1/2 inch below the top of the pants).
* I used my seam ripper to open the elastic tube at the back seam of the side I thought would be more commonly the inside.
* Then I threaded the elastic, sewed it, closed the seam and used the great idea (thanks Kari_mom) of a piece of ribbon to cover that seam and make a little tag to mark the back.

As I made these I put a tiny safety pin on all the back pieces when I cut them becasue it was easy to lose track of which sides were the back sides.

I think this might sound confusing but I think if you read it as you went it would make sense. I hope this helps. If I make another pair I could take some photos as I go... but I have a pile of things to get through before that!
