*REALLY* strange question

I feel weird even asking this, but it's something I was thinking about the other day and no matter where I look I can't find the answer.

For those of you who've had kids before ...

Does it smell? There's all this strange liquid coming out of your body along with the baby, right? And normally the liquids that come out of your body are accompanied by some sort of smell. Is this the same?

I'm just trying to make that I and my birthing partners (DH and my best friend) are as well informed as we possibly can be about what it's going to be like. Sure does lead to some strange questions though!

From what I remember it all had a sweet smell... It wasn't unpeasant at all... I am very sensitive to smells but I cuddled and kisses both of the boys for a long time before they had their first baths...

But I agree... I wondered the same before ds#1 was born...

We called dd 'pickles' after she was born--I don't remember the smell after birth, but after her bath and when they brought her to me was when she smelled like dill pickles! Strange huh?

Well the only smell I remember is poop. It's common to have BM's while pushing, and I did.

I just remember it smelling *good*!!! The amniotic fluid smelt kinda sweet (but really neutral), and dd just smelt good, in a way I can't describe - you'll know it when you're sniffing your babe!!

I, on the other hand, smelt like a horse barn :

The guys in our Bradley class were warned that there would be smells involved - I think with the idea that most of them have only had the experience of childbirth (and periods, for that matter) from television. I honestly was prepared for a whole lot of bad smells, but I don't remember anything bad at all. I was also **really** tired after pushing for 3.5 hours. I feel bad now, but I basically patted my son on the head, said, "Hi, Baby!", and fell into a semi-conscious sleep.

You know, I don't remember a smell. DH doesn't either. Perhaps there was one, but we were certainly too wrapped up to notice. If there was a smell, it wasn't strong enough to distract us or that we even noticed.

I was at my niece's birth and really didn't smell anything ever. SIL did throw up once, so I guess that was the exception. But no freaky stinky fluids or anything, and the baby, she smelled nice and clean.

I don't remember any smells either. Baby definitely didn't smell (only got to kiss him on the forehead before he was whisked away to NICU, but I'm sure I would have smelled something if it was there). I emptied my bowels during transition, so I don't think I pooped during pushing.
