My DH is a chemist and receives Chemical and Engineering news weekly. I usually skim it for articles of interest, and this week's issue had a VERY interesting article on public flouridation.

http://pubs.acs.org/cen/government/84/8436gov1.html

The inability to crunch numbers effectively rings very familiar...I see the parallels with thimerosal. I guess we could debate whether they are THAT incompetent, or whether there are even bigger issues at play as far as why they keep pumping it into our water supply (I love the quote from the guy saying we don't know enough based on the current info to stop fluoridation. Ummmm....yeah. How about we know enough to know we shouldn't be continuing!)
This article mentions that fluoride may be tied to Down Syndrome in the chidren of "younger" mothers, thyroid disruption, skeletal weakening, decreased IQ, etc. Some of it I'm familiar with, some of it was relatively new to me.

I'd write more but I'm nak trying to get my DS down for a nap. I can't write a coherent post as I have a bad head cold as well, but hopefully someone will find this interesting.
