insect egg identification?

Anyone know of any good sites for figuring out what kind of bug lays eggs on something? My Ds and I are going nuts trying to figure out what lays eggs on the chain cover of our brand new swingset. Of all things the eggs are covered with fur, or so it looks like! :
I just haven't been able to find anything useful on the net.
TIA

Last summer I tried to identify eggs that seemed translucent with a dark gray center. I searched online and in books and never did find my answer. Maybe google insect life cycles, or something like that.

How about Spined soldier bug eggs? http://ipm.ncsu.edu/cotton/InsectCor...r_bug_eggs.jpg

You could teach him to use the local college as a resource. Call the biology department and make an appointment with one of the professors who specialize in bugs. Bring in a sample and have them ID it. I used to work in a college bio dept. and people did this regularly.

You could try your local extension service, I'd call the master gardeners if I had mysterious bug eggs.

Well here's one for you guys. I thought that we'd be waiting until spring to fin out what they are and in less then five days they've hatched! Now I'm even more confuse as I've never seen *tiny* grey inchworm looking things with black heads. :

As well I'm off to hit google again.

This is my favorite resource for all things bug related:

Garden Insects of North America: The Ultimate Guide to Backyard Bugs

It has great pictures in it. We mostly use it for figuring out what has been eating in our garden.

Thanks Ceili I added it to Ds's christmas wish list. (we're asking for books and music instead of letting the toys continue to over run us. *wink*)

That looks like an awsome book for Ds.
