decreased movement?

is this normal at 40 weeks?

tried chocolate {which normally makes her squirm like crazy} and nada. I felt my tum with my hands, and there seems to be some movement kinda like her practing breathing, but not much.

Should I head to hospital to be checked? I can't get ahold of my OB on weekends :

ETA: Finally managed to get her to wiggle a little - I think I was just panicing.

What could be causing her to not move around as much?

I have experienced the same thing- and my midwife explained that the movements are more subtle because baby is simply running out of space. (I only feel "big" movements at night...now this could be explained by the fact that I am chasing a very active toddler throughout the day and just don't notice movements at that time.)

She did say to call if the decreased movement seemed dramatically different, i.e. went hours without feeling anything.

Be well, mama!

I am starting to notice less movement too. There is not much room in there anymore. Also, some babies "rest up" for delivery a few days before.

Defintely less kicking and flipping...more squirming.

definately less movement in the last weeks. i think the very last week she didn't even hardly kick when i was going to sleep which was usually the hardest. i could feel more small movements when i was sitting down, like a leg moving across my tummy instead of kicks.

I am 40w6d today and this babe has just started to settle down the past couple of days. I have a bunch of amniotic fluid so this baby has had lots of room! It is totally normal for a baby to slow down the closer to birth you get. I think it's a combo of being totally cramped, and resting up for the big event. Mine both seemed/seem to be a bit sleepier near the end.
