The average for first-time moms is actually 10
days past the due date. Only 8% of babies arrive before or on their due dates. Most first time moms think/hope that their babies will come early. This very rarely happens.
IMO, the best thing to do would be to be totally ready at 38 weeks, but to not expect your baby before 42 weeks.
I thought my twins would come early (I'd been on bedrest for preterm labor since 29 weeks, with drugs until 33 weeks), and they didn't, and the last few weeks of my pregnancy were just excrutiating. Every hour felt like a day.
I am "due" November 13th, but I tell myself November 28th because I know the baby will be here by then.
