DTaP Question

Thread Starter
DS is getting his second DTaP shot in a month. He had all his 2m vaxes, but none since then. He's 5 months right now. Is there anthing I can give him to help him have less of a chance of reacting badly to the vaccination?

Thanks so much!

Please no DON'T VAX YOUR KID!!!! replies. We've researched, thought about this over and over, and prayed and prayed. This is the right decision for us right now. M son is a preemie and his chances of surviving pertussis is VERY low if he were to catch it in the next few months. We live on a college campus, so the stuff that goes around here is CRAZY!

Well, you won't find a group of women who knows more about vaccines and VPD's than the ones at MDC.

Just curious what diseases are you talking about that the DTaP would protect against. Not trying to be smarty, just honestly curious.

Eta...I'm sorry you were talking about pertussis, might help if I read your post better

Hi. Did your son have any reactions to his first set? If so, are you going to do that same shot again? If not, why do you think he might now?

As for what you can give to prevent any, I don't know that you can. However, I have seen ads in Mothering magazine for some homeopathic medication you give before the shots- Detox maybe? I have never tried it though.

My daughter had a reaction to the DTaP about four days after her 2 month shots. This was a reaction that was on the VIS sheet. Because I realized it was the pertussis part of the shot, she never has received this vaccine again. (We spaced the rest of her shots out pretty far, one at a time, and didn't start again until she was at least 2.) When it came time for her little brother to go to his 2 month shots, I wavered and asked several people worried.... But he is a different person than his sister and their older brother never had a problem, so I decided that he is not his sister so for HIM the benefits outweighed the risks. And he was fine with it.

If you have prayed and the decision is right for you, then just go ahead and do it. After all, if you believe your decision has been okayed by God, he wouldn't okay something that would be bad for your twins.

Correct?

Then what more do you need to know?

In Stephanie Cave's book, she suggests giving fruit juice right before and after the DTaP, to help stabalize blood sugar. She also suggests Vitamin C for a few days before and after the shot, to help prevent vaccine reactions. Hope this helps.

If you are going to selective/delay vaccines, her book is an excellent reference to help you decide which ones you want to give and when.
