Toilet Paper....

I've read that some of yall use cloth TP, I think it's GREAT but I don't think that'll go over too well with DH. I hate buying TP, mostly because I never can figure out what's the best deal!!!!

What's the best compromise on price vs. softness? I like Scotts myself, but DH complains about it!:

How can I tell what the best deal is when I get so confused, is it 12 regular rolls or 24 double rolls? Or what about 15 mega rolls?
So should I buy 24 regular rolls or just the 12=24 pack?? They should be the same amount of paper - theoretically...
I can't think that much, I usually just let DH grab whatever and grit my teeth about wasting the money. I'd like to do better.
I'm sure they make it this confusing so they can dupe you into spending more. Grrrrr!

Any suggestions?

How about switching to cloth for yourself and the kids and keeping the paper for DH and guests? I mean, who uses more TP?

You might be surprised. DP loves our cloth wipes--- you can wet them with warm water and they are great. You could also just use themselves for you and the kids and see if he comes around.

For paper we just buy the big thing at Costco. Because we don't go through it very quickly I like them individually wrapped.

I buy TP at Costco, too, and last time I bought it, they had a big box of some brand called Marathon. That stuff was such a bargain; it was only $0.14 a roll!

Oh, and as for determining the best price.... look at the total square footage. Believe it or not, they usually list that, and that's the most helpful!

I have been considering switching to cloth for myself. Since I, as a woman, use FAR more TP then hubby and the boys it will make a huge savings.

TP should not be so expensive!!!!!

That's what we did at our house. The kids just HATE to use regular TP now.

Ok, I would probably like cloth TP, so tell me about it! I have absolutely no idea!

I use cloth and dh and the boys use paper tp. I buy whatever two-ply tp is on sale.

For my cloth, I just cut up old cloth diapers and rags, and put them in a wicker basket on top of the toilet....my hamper is in the bathroom, so when I'm done I just toss them in there (I do use paper tp for number two).

How do you wash them -- with diapers, separately, with other clothes?

I just wash them with clothes, as they only have pee on them Not much different than washing a pair of "accident" pants for ds2....they don't get soaking wet or smelly or anything.

That's sortof what I figured, Thanks!

Scott's now makes an 'Extra Soft' which is a little more expensive, but infinitely more tolerable.

I thought the regular was fine myself - and I'm the one who has to use it constantly!
I bought some nice, cheap flannel like my cloth pads are made of and cut out a few squares. I'm working on stitching around them so they don't unravel but my sewing machine was messing up and I haven't even finished one yet! I still plan on finishing though!

Old tshirts make great TP squares, they don't unravel and are soft.

I use cloth and toss it in the diaper pail, though not always for #2. We use a ton less TP that way, though the first week or so I had a hard time at night to not toss the cloth in the toilet!

Thanks for the suggestion, I just don't have too many extra T-shirts lying around, guess I could hit up the goodwill store.

Once you use cloth tp you will seriously never go back. My dh has even started using it now. Although he doesn't usually tell me b/c he thinks it's a bit disgusting. It's not.

I keep clean wipes in a basket on the counter that's right next to the toilet. Used wipes get thrown in the little diaper pail (even though we're diaper free here now). Then when it's full, I do a cold rinse. After that I throw in all of our towels and washcloths and wash them in hot. I line dry now that I have a clothesline.

It's not gross. And you will adjust. And you will probably throw a few in the toilet that you'll have to fish out!
