This is how I feel, though I am nursing and not really exercising regularly. I don't count cal's and I haven't been cheating. Will it get better? April

I'm right there with you. I've stayed exactly the same weight for about 9 months now -- but I haven't been sick in about 6 months(I traditionally get sick every 2-3 months), my hair looks healthier, I'm having fewer and less severe bouts of depression, I don't need any pain meds on my period(the last 10 years I'd needed to take 800+ mg of motrin every 4-6 hours to not be writhing in sheer agony for three days every month)...I breastfeed all the time, but I don't work out at all, and I eat tons of butter and I drink a lot of milk and eat whole milk yogurt...if fat really makes you fat, then I would have been gaining all along -- instead of just maintaining. Once I start exercising a few times per week, I'm pretty sure the weight will gradually come off....but I think it is pretty cool that I can eat all the good fatty, yummy food I want all day long and not have to worry about gaining.haha. That does make me feel better. I've never been able to abstain fromnaturally fatty stuff like nuts, fish, and avocados. but now that i got really fat milk and cream, i don't hold back. But I don't crave chocolate like I was, really not at all. I don't crave sweets much at all. I'm even back to coffee w/out sweet, but tea I don't want to give up. I won't, I can't! No, not ever! Right now at least. Do you hold on to weight when you nurse? it seems like mine really comes off until a year after i completely wean. If you're nursing twins do you need to consume more calories?

i'm nursing twins and you're supposed to have 500 extra calories per baby--so 1000 for twins. but...my weight is crazy. and dh's just went up about 10 pounds too. at first we lost some weight doing NT, but now i guess i just know how to make too much good stuff. and farm fresh milk is just awesome. the only thing ihave learned about nursing is that every body is really different. my girlfriend who does NT (with pasta) weighs 125--she's nursing one baby. we delivered at almost the same weight, and i'm still a good 15 pounds heavier than she is after nursing my twin-booby-monsters. the only time i weighed less than this was when i ate no grains at all, but i was starving ALL THE TIME.
so i don't know. if you're worried about weight, watch the grains and sweeteners. don't try to DIET tho. the one time i did, we all got sick.
good luck!

I must say that I think exercise is vital. I mean traditional cultures did not sit around use the computer, have modern appliances and drive everywhere. They worked their butts off just doing household chores, not to mention maintaining agriculture, taking care of animals and fetching water from fresh sources...Way more exercise than any of us could possibly be getting. Not saying anything personal, but it seems that we would need to be getting a decent amount of exercise in order to not feel/look fat.

At the risk of repeating myself constantly
: I think how much fat you can eat depends on your metabolic type. I eat tons of fat-it's the only way I lose weight. My close friend can't eat it at all or she gains.

To the one who talked about exercise, you're probably very right. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, if i'm not doing some excrsz i start to get all soft and squishy. my dh loves it, but it doesn't help my clothes fit better.
eating like this, though, I must say, i have seen more muscle tone, where i hold the baby and all.

I just noticed a bottle that I pumped yesterday doesn't have as much cream as it used to. Is this bad? did anyone else have this?

Don't be too sure about hte blessed thing....ther are many things I can't do. If I fill up on yummy fruits and veggies I will stall or even sometimes gain weight. I feel very meat heavy.
you're right firefairy. we're all blessed in some ways and cursed in others. I think that i could live off of milk, cream, eggs, seafood, and fruits and vegetables, and oats. If we didn't have fresh tacos everywhere around us I might give up meat altogether, except for the fat. but i could not live on the atkins diet. vegetables make me feel clean. but i know people that do really well on it, with few carbs. We're all made different and we have to do the best we can with what we have.

Hibou- It is so true! I love to see shows/pictures of native cultures and see their real bodies (especially the sagging boobs!what a relief!)
Firfeary (or anyone)-how to you find your metabolic type? The short free quiz on mercola.com said I was protein. He does not have a fat option though--only protein and mixed (carb and protein).

That's right, but a protein type does very well with alot of fat. Wolcott's book goes in depth.

Judi Dench says a line in "Mrs. Brown" that I relaly liked. She told the princess that she should "never sacrifice ones appitite for vanity" , or something like that. I'll have to watch it again.
For me, excercise is key. I still have weight to lose, but I feel more toned, less water retention and such when I consume dairy as it should be
I find running, pilates and yoga help too
you just can't expect the calories you eat to burn themselves...
