Life With a Babe Week of 9/10 - Page 2

that looks much simpler. i did the tummy to tummy one that you wrap all around (the complicated way) and she likes that...it gets kinda hot for her though. i will try that one for a simpler way to put her in and out.

should i be using one breast or 2 to feed? i have been only using one and trying to compress all the milk out. with ds i would feed with 2 but he also didn't have any trouble getting all the milk out in 10 minutes. i want to make sure she gets as full as possible and gets alot of hindmilk cause i think that would greatly improve the time between feedings.

with comfort sucking...she hasn't figured out really this at all. she sometimes catches her hand but not for long. i have just bought a pacifier but she doesn't really like it. i THINK this is why she feeds so often is cause she really wants to just suck. i am going to try a few different brands/types of pacifiers and hope that she likes at least one of them. i usually wouldn't introduce a fake nipple so young but i don't know what else to do. anyone else have a picky pacifier user? ds took to them easily at 4ish weeks or so just like he did with the bottle. no probs.

also i am not wanting to cosleep for a few reasons. i have gotten out the pack n play for our room and she will sleep in it during the day quite easily but at night she is much more picky. i had to create a little nest for her last night and she was satisfied for the last half of the night with that. she was still up quite a bit though. i am seriously lacking in the good sleep dept. and i need to get it so that i can survive without sleeping in cause i have to start getting up with ds soon.

ok so theres my laundry list of problems and questions. i feel like i have more problems this time than with ds. thats weird.

TIA

wow - I finally get to join this thread!

Trinity is doing well except for some mucus issues that make her have to sleep either upright or inclined. This is tricky since the local babiesrus is out of the wedge pillow for her bassinet, so myself and grandma have been taking turns holding her upright to sleep. It's getting better though - she hasn't spit up any mucus since yesterday!

I made my first BF oops yesterday - came home from the hospital and all I wanted to drink was a diet pepsi. So I had one - and paid for it all night long with a wired babe who just wanted to nurse constantly! But my milk has definatly come in, and she is content so everything is good. And thankfully she is a pro at comfort sucking her hands, so no paci for us!

Out of curiousity - is anyone else's babe not pooing? Trinity hasn't poo'd since about 10 am yesterday, and I'm starting to get worried. She seems content, and is peeing well & passing gas, just not pooing. She did poo a lot in the first 2 days - maybe she is just empty of poo?She went around 4 times on day 1, and more than that on day 2 - all huge greenish poos. Hoping nothing is wrong.

Been busy making her 2 week pedi appt, and her WIC appt for next week, which luckily falls on tuesday so I can get a 1 week weight check done @ WIC while I'm there {saving me trip to pedi!}.

Not pooing is fine. ALl kinds of pooing habits are quite normal - from colour to frequency it depends on how much they have fed, how often, what you have eaten....... try not to worry a poo blow out will be on its way soon.

To all of you with non sleepy and very sucky babies - give them a break: No seriously they are still in a transition from womb to world and aren't used to having to feed not get their food direct 24/7. They love sucking; they have no hobbies our outside interests to distract them and they are still learners in the feeding game.

How long can you go without a sip of water during the day? Three hours is a long time for a weeny person and you are lucky if you get that long with out him or her needing to wet their lips at least (hence the 'quickie suck' that stops just as you get a let down)

This will pass and feeds will space out. You will get more sleep little by little and find ways to take advantage of quiet moments to rest but hese first weeks are a bit full on ond busy. Hang on in there.

I'm feeling your pain too even after doing this three times previously I had still sort of forgotten how much little people feed.
