is this a good price?

A health food store near me that's owned by a homeschooling family (I see the kids stocking shelves when I'm there, hehe) has organic grass-fed ground beef for $4.99/lb. That seems great to me, is it? They also carry ground ostrich and buffalo, whole ducks, wild salmon. Too bad the chicken is vegetarian-fed.

i don't eat meat but i noticed that ground beef at whole foods yesterday was 6.99

maybe it is cheaper through a co-op or farm though???

we get it for around $4 a lb

It's really good for a HFS. The ones near me want $5.99 to $6.99 for just organic beef, not grassfed. I try to get the grassfed beef whenever I can at the farmer's market, which is slightly cheaper. DH and I are getting ready to get a freezer so we can go buy 1/4 or 1/2 a cow, which will end up being only about $3.50/lb.

Our locally owned hfs sells local ground beef for $4.49 or $4.99 (two different farms, one's certified organic, the other isn't certified). Direct from several different farms, though, I get it for $4-$4.50. Sounds like a reasonable price to me.

sounds pretty good. Over here on the west soast, I paid 5.50 a pound for our family pack straight from the rancher.

ok thanks, I thought it sounded pretty good, after seeing regular organic ground beef for $6.99/lb at the comissary. I need to ask around and see if I can buy a side of a cow straight from a farm, that would be great.
