I have just started cooking with TVP and am in love with the versatility it provides. Being a vegetarian for 16 years and never cooking with this before seem so unimaginable, but true. I have made mock chicken salad with avacado, snow peas, pine nuts, brocolli slaw, carrots, celery and onions with nayonaise., it is yummy! I also tried a recipe from "the Farm" for tvp meatballs and they were really easy & good. I don't have the recipe in front of me right now but will post if anyone wants it. What are some of your favorite tvp recipes??

My favorite TVP recipe is also mock chicken salad. I also love it in chili and spagetti sauce and is a great way to thicken them if they are a little thin. I also use it to make mock chicken soup.

Melanie I have that cookbook , but haven't tried the spagetti dish yet.

Could you post your mock chicken salad recipe sounds good~

Thanks!

I use TVP to thicken up rice & beans to stuff in green peppers. It's also a good way to sneak a meat-free meal by my carnivorous fiance!
I would love the recipes for mock chicken salad and TVP 'meatballs'.

the mock chicken salad I just made up...

I used one cup of tex. veggie protein and hydrated in one cup of hot water(I may have used a little more water, just make sure tvp is moist and not crunchy)

Add chopped onions
celery
carrots
avacado
(you can add any other veggies in your fridge)
pinenuts
you can even add small chunks of soy cheese
and add some nayonaise(or canola mayo) It is sooo yummy and even better the next day!

I will be back with the meatball recipe~my babe just woke up

forgot to add that I bought this amazing organic brocolli slaw from whole foods and added lots of that to the chickenless salad! Really yummy

That mock chicken recipe sounds good, I also add a little vegetarian chicken flavored broth powder to the TVP before pouring over the water and that gives it even more chicken salad taste. We also like it with sweet relish and peas.

I love all the TVP recipes in The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook, in fact I think I love all the recipes in there, period! (Oh, except the sauerbraten, that was scary.)

The three we make the most often are:

the tvp chili dogs (alot of work, but so good and it makes alot so you can freeze them and micro or bake for a quick meal)

TVP in gravy (great comfort food, cheap and filling and delicious over baked or mashed potatoes, or even toast)

and the tvp meatballs, which make the best meatball subs.
