Almost 4 and wont poop in potty...HELP!

My son will be four next month and he refuses to sit on the potty to poop. He feels more comfortable when he stands and gives me a huge fight when i try to get him to sit on the potty for longer than a few minutes. He has been pee trained for the most part for almost a year. He has the usual accidents usually overnight.

We have the childs size potty seat on the toilet and he sometimes uses it to pee. He has learned how to pee standing from his dad but im not sure if that is pulling him from sitting on the potty to do anything.

Any pointers for me...i would really appreciate it.

He seems to only poop when he is at home too which i think is good.

have you tried letting him use a potty chair, like for toddlers?

if it were me, I'd just try very hard not to force the issue, especially if he was generally accident free.

My ds just turned 5 and is the same way. I don't find it to be a problem though, since he will wait til he is at home. He did go in the toilet once, when I was busy and saying "just a minute". He just went and sat down because he didn't want to wait. I'm sure that will happen again eventually. I know he can. He knows he can. But he doesn't want to. And I don't want to coerce him since there isn't any real reason for me to.

Has anything changed in his routine? This is normally when something like that would happen. Has there been stress in your home? I feel bad for your situation. For you and your son.

My oldest was like that. He was potty trained by three, but for more than two years after that, he wouldn't sit to poop. He would actually put his feet on the toilet seat and SQUAT over the bowl. It used to completely bewilder me. But he stopped sometime... not sure when.

For one who absolutely WILL NOT use the toilet, there is a certain style of potty that looks like a dinosaur, and the position it puts the child in is better for a 'stand up pooper' kid.

It is frustrating... I've been there! But they learn, eventually.
