Does your baby's tummy gurgle constantly?

She sounds like she has a chemistry experiment going on in there! Lots of gurgles, 24/7, noisier than mine or Dh's occasional rumbles.

I burp her after every feeding, and keep her upright, but she still struggles with painful gas and lots of spit up, despite my not eating wheat, dairy, corn, soy, nuts, or gassy veggies.

Poor dd is miserable more often than not, and I think it interferes with her sleep.

Anyone else? What else can I do?

Yes. :big sigh: Same with owie baby and elimination diet. It's infuriating I swear.

I've got baby on hyoscyamine drops (it's a Rx) as well as Zantac (again, another Rx) - we are going to a GI specialist tomorrow and the naturopath for intolerance testing (soonest I could get in for that is next week). We also see a craniosacrial/chiro (she doesn't do any crunching... just very soft manipulation that is softer than I burp him) every few days - it's been helping a bit so that the pain isn't from his neck AND his tummy.

From what I hear, that gurgling can be a sign of intolerance/allergies for baby - can you go to a naturopath for intolerance testing for you (it tests how you make your milk basically) and DD? How is her stools? What does her spit-up look like? Does it seem to hurt her when she spits up? Does she like sleeping on her tummy? Do you swaddle her? Have you tried cutting out eggs?

Having these issues Round #3 myself I will tell you that it DOES get better... but it's challenging to not know why it's going on. This time I'm determined to find the reason before he outgrows the issues.

HUGE hugs, I'll be watching to see how you're doing (are you on the yahoo group? I am)... I'll update how Graysen is doing or what is going on in his apts. in case it helps you get ideas. Sorry you're dealing with this... it's very tough.

Hmm, DD gurgles a lot, but she doesn't seem to have any intolerance issues. Every 4th feeding or so she will gulp when I have letdown and pull off and cry, which makes me think I have an overactive letdown. She has a fussy period every evening, but it's like clockwork so I don't think that has anything to do with milk or anything. BirthFree, what would be the answers to those questions that would indicate an intolerance? My baby has very watery stools, her spit up looks curdled but mostly liquid, she doesn't spit up very often and it doesn't seem to hurt her, she rolls onto her side or belly during the night to cuddle up to me, and we occasionally swaddle her. I have not eliminated anything, but will if there is a possible problem.

Maybe post in the breastfeeding forum? You likely will get some good suggestions there. You could also try the chiropractor or the cranio-sacral as
BirthFree suggested. My DD was born posterior and just couldn't get comfortable to feed on the left breast, ended up fussing and throwing up whatever she ate on that side. I took her to the chiro at 5 days old and ever since she has no problem with that side and spitting up the milk. She was also much more content and fed longer after her chiro visit. My chiro also does not do the standard manipulation, he uses something called the "activator" which is very gentle.

Meghan... are her stools watery - like mucousy? Are they green or yellow?

If they are kind of mucuousy or greenish... I would guess an overactive let-down. You can fix this by doing block-feeds (that's feeding on one breast for a block of four hours... and then switching to the next breast for the next four hours). Your body will regulate it better and give more hind-milk if you do this.

Fussing at the same time every night is pretty typical if it's not screaming ... it's the screaming or pain that would make it different.

She had one poop that was greenish about 2 weeks ago, and had a bit of blood streaked poop awhile ago. I chalked the blood up to straining, b/c she had been pooping a lot that day and was straining a lot. But it's watery, not mucousy, and yellow. I think sometimes she just gets frustrated b/c she wants to suck not to eat, and my milk lets down really fast, like within a minute or less.

Ian doesn't spit up but he is very gassy and in pain. He just arches and screams, I feel so helpless. I give him the anti-gas drops, sometimes they help. He didn't poo for a few days then did about 3 am Sunday. He hasn't poo'd again since. He went from 4-6 dirty dipes a day to none. They used to be splatty and greenish with little yellowish blobs. At first I thought the greenish was due to the jaundice, but now i'm wondering if it wasn't a foremilk - hindmilk imbalance. The last one was very thick. I've cut out his formula supplement and am just nursing now. Praying that he doesn't lose weight. I just don't know there are too many variables. Is it the formula, something I'm eating? is he screaming because he's hungry without the supp? I just am so frustrated. I'm thinking about doing a glycerin suppository. I had to do that to dd when she was a baby due to formula constipating her. She had pellet poo though. Is there something better than going straight to that?

eta...well, I didn't want to, but I did do a suppository. He was arching, screaming and grunting for over 30 min and I just couldn't watch him suffer anymore. I can't beleive how much he was backed up. I just got done nursing him and he's sleeping more soundly than he has in days. Hopefully things will start working on their own now.

BirthFree, to answer your questions...her stools are usually yellow, thin, but not mucousy. Her spit up is thick and cottage cheesy, and it does seem to hurt her. She will wake up with a scream, cry tragically for a minute, then...:Puke ...sometimes so forceful it comes through her nose.
She seems to like sleeping on her side the most. not her tummy, we don't swaddle her because she kicks her legs so much I figured she'd rather be free. And eggs are on my list as of 3 days ago...

what do you think?

It sounds like reflux at a minimum to me NewAtThis. Can you go to a gastroenterologist or get her otherwise tested? It's kind of an icky (though painless) test and you can actually SEE if they are refluxing.

Graysen has blood in his stools (you can't see it visibly, but it's there (it was tested and showed)) - I think it's b/c of allergies/intolerances for sure so we're working on that. He got tested for the reflux today and I think it was negative, he also had some colon tissue biopsied (I'll know the results of both of those on Monday). Anyways... it is a big step in the right direction for us... but we still have a long ways to go.

Keep searching for the answer NewAtThis... it'll be worth it for your DD I know it!

This sounds just like my friend's dd. She was diagnosed with reflux, had prevacid, had to have nutramigen (friend gave up on bf'ing after milk came in slowly). Anyway, it slowly started to get better at 3mo and now she is 7mo on no meds, reg formula, no more projectile spitting up.
