And it's a girl! Just like my first, almost every single person was sure I was having a boy. My pregnancies were also completely different so I almost had myself convinced a boy was on the way as well!
Born Sept. 7
7lbs 8oz
20" long
Like some others here, I also lost my homebirth. The baby was posterior and had herself angled in the birth canal so she wouldn't come down.
After 22 hours of HARD back labour at home, I was only at 6cm as the contractions weren't strong enough to get her down although they sure felt strong to me! My cervix was all stretchy and I had a brief moment were I was at 8cm but my body slowed labour and I was back at 6cm, exhausted and in serious pain.
I never wish a back labour on anybody. I stayed vertical and tried numerous positions to get baby to rotate, also used homeopathy, but it seems she wouldn't budge. The strange angle she was at had her head in a position where the side and top of her head is what was coming down and I would have had to get to 13-14cm to get her head out....uh, not possible I think!
So I ended up going to the hospital to have some oxytocin to get some hard(er) contractions going. I didn't have any other medication and somehow I made it through those excruciating back labour contractions. They put so much pressure on my bottom I was sure I was going to push out my insides. Pushing stage went much quicker than my first (25 minutes vs 1 hr 45 mins for my first) and felt much better than the first time round until her head came out...ouch...posterior head is NOT comfortable!
My midwife and my doula both came to the hospital with me. My midwife delivered the baby and my doula and family were there to watch. The nurses and doc stood back and watched without interference.
In the end, the whole event took 28 hours. And everyone told me the 2nd babe would be faster and easier, hah!
