I helped my 14yr old shave for the first time today. He's 6ft tall and 175.... where had the time gone.
How did he get this mature?

I'm right there with ya. My oldest is 15. I don't feel old at all...I really don't understand how I suddenly have this huge young man (that resembles a baby I once had) calling me "Mom". It seems like only yesterday his big blue eyes were looking up at me, now I look up at them. It seems like a rollercoaster going between the joy I feel at the great person he is now, and the grief I feel over the loss of the little boy I so enjoyed. I get panic-striken when I think about how fast the next 3 years will go and then he'll be off to college. Hugs to you

Im lucky he is a super kid and we have a great relationship. I knew he needed to shave but he was proud of the fuzzy chin and cheeks LOL. It was cute he came and said "can you just shave your chin and cheeks but not my lip" I laughed and said that I THOUGH I could manage that. He did well and no blood. Thanks for the hugs ladies !

Oh how bittersweet! My boy is only eight, so I have a few more years for that, but I have an almost thirteen year old daughter. In the past two years she's gotten her period, started shaving her legs, asked me how to use tampons (!), and often stays up later than I do. She is 5 foot 2 inches tall (did I mention that I'm only 5'3"?!) and weighs 110 pounds. She is gorgeous, sweet, kind, caring, and can also be a total brat - as I'm sure you other mothers of teenagers can understand! YIKES!

DH helped our oldest learn how to shave a few months ago. Our oldest is named Logan too, and he's 13. An ITA that time goes way too fast, although I don't feel old (yet).

Oh my goodness - shaving will be just around the corner for us too : Where did the time go??

Of course, my son cycles competitively and will probably want to shave his legs too........

In light of my own experience of deciding to shave my legs at the age of eleven with a rusty old razor I found in the back of the medicine cabinet where my father must have left it before he and my Mom split up when I was an infant, I decided to buy ds a top of the line SAFE Norelco electric razor for his 14th birthday, even though I didn't see any peach fuzz at all back then.

He's now about 5'8, between 140-150 lbs (guesstimate; we don't own a scale) and with a very deep bass voice. I have never seen any cuts or scars on his face from shaving, so I consider the Norelco one of my better purchases.

This is my youngest child. My oldest is only 17, but has been a college student for some time, so I tend to think of her as being much older. I was very emotional when she took me on a tour of her campus, because I had always planned to go back "when the baby was old enough" instead of ending my education with an Associate of the Arts. I realized then that I would never go back to school and also that dd truly appreciates being a full time student and understands just what I had to give up in order to give this one semester to her.

More and more frequently I find myself looking at dd and thinking that's she's grown up so fast that now she's "about my age" and not recognizing the old lady in the mirror as myself.

I was the one with seperation anxiey this school year. 2 Seniors and 1 8th grader. No one wanted their picture taken. I cried all the way to work. I cry when they drive away, go to work, when I look at baby pics ... It all happened way too fast. But...I love the big people they have become.

Oh, the baby pictures are the absolute worst! I was an avid 35mm photographer and have TONS of them to scam and I find them all so incredibly poignant. It annoys me that I can't just show them to people and say, "Look!" and have them feel all the joy and the sadness and the missed opportunities and the fulfilled dreams that I do.

The "clutter" in the background of half-remembered once-familiar toys and other household objects is amazing too. I'd only seen most of them as "economy size" 3 1/2" prints, so it's amazing to blow them up to fill the screen of my 17" monitor and see all the details I missed before it became nostalgia.

To all the "growing up" Moms and hutson I totally understand your tears. I know the next stage will be enjoyable too but I just don't want it quite yet.

thanks nibeka!! i got senior pic proofs in the mail yesterday and was amazed that my baby looks like a grown woman, so savvy and sophisticated. the time went so fast that i wonder if i took enough time to enjoy her? she starts dual credit courses at a local junior college in january boy was that exciting for her to sign up and sad for me because i think it is just one more step into adulthood. i know that there are still lots of fun ahead but it is hard to realize that slowly you are being phazed out of the daily routine of a child you have been so wrapped up in for some long. i honestly don't remember what i did with my life before my children!!
